Our 3rd Annual Knitathon!

Set your watch, knit a swatch, and get ready for Knitathon 2026!

Knitathon is a 24 hour fiber fest and fundraiser, from noon to noon November 14th and 15th, which encourages the use of handwork and fibers skills to create items for those in need. Ticket sales and raffle proceeds from Knitathon will go towards Tacony LAB Community Art Center’s year-round free programming. All handmade hats, scarves, and mittens made throughout the duration of Knitathon will go to The Block Gives Back for their Warm Clothing Drive and distributed to the community. https://www.theblockgivesback.org

Participants are invited to join a 24 hour craft circle, enjoy games and prizes, enter a best dressed “in your own makes” contest, guided stretching breaks, child friendly and beginner hours, raffles and much more! 

Knitathon is made possible by Mural Arts, Tacony Together, and Councilmember Mike Driscoll, with prizes donated by Wawa, Blick, American Mortals, Lush, and friends and artists of the LAB!

Your confirmation email will serve as your ticket! Please have it handy at the door when you arrive at Knitathon. Tickets can also be purchased day-of at the door via Venmo

How to score raffle tickets:

• Your entry ticket grants you one raffle ticket
• One ticket per item made for The Block Gives Back (hat, mittens, scarf)
• One ticket per hour that you spend at Knitathon
• Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $2 per ticket

Schedule of Events:

Saturday November 14th

12 pm Knitathon Begins!

12 pm to 2 pm: Child-friendly hours (children must be accompanied by a grown-up)

2 pm – 8 pm: Beginner hours – beginners are welcome for basic instruction with our volunteers

4 pm: Fiber Olympics – Take a break from your project and join fellow participants in a series of contests to see who’s a fiber art jack of all trades! The top 3 contestants win prizes from our sponsors!

6 pm: Fiber Lingo Bingo

8 pm: Hands-on help ends! Movie screening of YARN

Sunday November 15th

12 am: Halfway Point Check-In and Midnight Karaoke!

4 am: Fiber Olympics After Dark – Take a break from your project and join fellow participants in a series of contests to see who’s a fiber art jack of all trades!

7 am: Coffee and Donuts – Refuel and re-energize with us and our wips!

8 am: Fiber Lingo Bingo

10 am: Best Knit and Best Crochet Winners Announced; Best Dressed in Own Makes Winners Announced

11 am: Raffle Drawings; final tally of funds raised and items made for The Block Gives Back!

*Please be advised that we have a cat at the LAB. She’s a sweet old kitty who loves to meet new people. She will most likely be hanging around Knitathon. If you are allergic to cats, please plan accordingly.*

What is Knitathon?

Knitathon is a 24 hour event at the Tacony LAB Community Art Center taking place in mid November. The purpose is to bring together community around fiber arts.

Do I have to stay the whole 24 hours?

Nope! You can come and go as you please. You can go home for a nap or go out for a break and come back. For every hour you are present, you will get credit for one raffle ticket.

Are we making items to keep or to donate?

This is your choice, but we encourage all participants to make at least one item for donation! In Knitathon tradition, we will be collecting handmade winter accessory items for The Block Gives Back, an organization devoted to serving the community and distributing items to those in need. Last year we were able to give them a large box of hats, scarves and mittens that were made by the community! For more info on The Block Gives Back, visit https://www.theblockgivesback.org/

But I don’t know how to knit! Can I still come?

Yes! Hands-on help for beginners is available from 2 pm to 8 pm on the 14th. We have circular knitting machines operated by a crank and we can show you how to use one in just a few minutes. The circular knitting machines can make a warm winter hat in less than an hour.

How can I sign up to volunteer?

We will need lots of help during our child-friendly and beginner hours on the first day (Nov 14th, 12 pm – 8 pm). Patience and a basic understand of knitting is a must. We will also need experienced knitters for our team of sponsored pros: individuals who cannot attend are able to purchase a ticket to sponsor a knitter to attend Knitathon for free and make a unique item for The Block Gives Back. All volunteers will receive free entry and 6 raffle tickets! I don’t knit. I crochet. (or quilt, or weave, or spin or other fiber art…)
Can I still come?

Yes! Knitathon is about celebrating community with fiber arts. Bring your crocheting project or your portable loom, drop spindle, needle felting etc!

How do I enter the Best Knit or Best Crochet Competition?

We will select one winner from each category (knit or crochet)!

Drop off objects, wearables, artwork, etc by Friday November 6th. Winners will be selected through a polling process on our Instagram and announced at 10 am on Sunday Nov 15th!

I might not make it the whole 24 hours. Do I have to be there at the end to win any prizes?

No. You will be asked to fill out your raffle tickets before you leave so we can contact you. Raffle drawings will take place at 11 am on Sunday November 15th!

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! Child-friendly hours are from 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday the 14th. The rest of Knitathon will only be for participants ages 13 and up. Please respect these guidelines; we don’t want to have to ask anyone to leave!

I can’t make it! How else can I support?

You can sponsor a knitter from our team of pros! Make a note in your ticket purchase and we will assign a volunteer knitter to make a hat, scarf, or pair of mittens for the Block Gives Back in your place!
